HivSport Invites You For A Day School On Sport And Globalisation


Sport & Globalization: The World Cup in South Africa and Beyond

Aims:

To raise awareness of the connections between sport and international development issues.

To highlight the contribution of sport to harmony and cross-cultural understanding worldwide as well as to equality and anti-racism at home.

To develop understanding of the relationship between sport, industry and trade and the importance of corporate social responsibility regarding sports products.

To provide practical examples of successfully engaging young people in social issues through sport.

To focus on South Africa as a developing country with the particular problem of HIV AIDS and explore what action is necessary to address this at both an international and a personal level.

To scope interest in, and need for, further professional development seminars on sport and global issues in the region.

The programme includes:

An expert panel of speakers including:Simon Davey (former Manager, Barnsley FC), Sarah Williams (Equality and Diversity Manager), a speaker from the FA International Department, Yvonne Cass (Chair, Northern Refugee Centre) Chaired by Alan Irwin from Education Sports Forum, and Video conference with South Africa (Paul Shambira of World Class Cities For All campaign)

Workshops:

Balls To Poverty: Inspiring communities through young role models.

Africaid Grassroots Soccer: Addressing HIV AIDS through sport with young people.

Sport products & decent work: Highlighting worker’s rights the problem of child labour.

Kick It Out: Football’s equality and inclusion campaign.

Discussion Groups: To develop ideas for future activities in the region

Date: Thursday 22nd April 2010

Time: 10am - 4pm

Venue: Northern College, Wentworth Castle, Stainborough, Barnsley, S75 3ET

Cost: This is a FREE event, including a buffet lunch.
