Arturo Gatti - Alone when it mattered most!
What a very sad end to a great warrior; Arturo Gatti, an all too familiar story for some fighters who simply find life outside of ring difficult to come to terms with.
Of course, no one will ever know what truly happened in the
final hours of this great warriors life, better to remember the man who was, an old fashioned blood and guts hero who would rather be carried out on his shield than give a poor performance. It has now come to light that the former world champion committed suicide and was not murdered as initially suspected. The 37-year-old Canadian was found dead in a holiday flat in north-eastern Brazil earlier this month and his wife Amanda Rodriguez, who was primarily charged with his murder, has now been released. "The police inquiry concluded that he committed suicide using the strap of a rucksack on a staircase in the early hours of the morning," a police spokesman from Pernambuco state said. Italian-born Gatti was found dead on July 11 in the flat the couple had rented in the seaside resort of Porto de Galinhas. Nicknamed "Thunder", Gatti was IBF super featherweight champion in 1995 and WBC super-lightweight champion in 2004. He retired in 2007 with a 40-9 record. "So many people falling at his feet when he was a champ, who was ther to listen to this troubled genious when it really mattered" Alan Irwin, CEO
